OUR TALENT

Our community is skilled in a variety of creative disciplines. These work samples illustrate the talent of our artists and storytellers. You choose how you want to integrate our talent into your unique product.

Exhibit Storytelling

Whether displayed digitally or physically, your work deserves a good narrative. If you are working on an exhibit or collection of work that needs a voice, our team can craft the right story with a clear mission that puts your target audience in the center of the work. We can provide exhibit storytelling services for hallway photography collection, large-scale museum rooms and everything in between.

Illuminations

This art x science show was put on by The Plenary, Co. in San Fransisco, California with ECOS as a community partner and artist contributor. Our team helped curate the show from its early inception develop the storytelling that guided guests through the science research that supported each illustration. ECOS artists helped host the event and walk people through each of the six exhibits that challenged society's perspective on nature, information, art and technology.

Event Planning

Whether displayed digitally or physically, your work deserves a good narrative. If you are working on an exhibit or collection of work that needs a voice, our team can craft the right story with a clear mission that puts your target audience in the center of the work. We can provide exhibit storytelling services for hallway photography collection, large-scale museum rooms and everything in between.

Women in STEAM

Women in STEAM was a photography exhibit and seminar highlighting women in science fields. Black and white portraits of 20 different women at all career stages celebrate the personal and emotional connections each women has with their research. The exhibit and seminar were funded by the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion grant and featured in UNSW's first inaugural Diversity Fest. See the digital exhibit here.

Communication Consulting

Looking for support in social media campaigns, website design, communications copy or science writing? We have artists that do just that and more. We provide communication consultation by project or on retainer, giving you the freedom and flexibility to work with us on a variety of goals.

World Fish Migration Day

Working with the Nature Conservancy, ECOS artists developed a communications strategy, campaign content and planned an event for World Fish Migration and the Living Planet Index for Freshwater Migratory Fishes.

Educational Materials

Members of our community have worked on a range of educational materials from research reports, presentations, interactive media and story maps. Each of us has a background in science and a deep investment in elevating scientific literacy. Whether your project targets K-12 students or adult learners, we can help you create materials that meet your students where they are.

Reports, Infographics and Interactive Data

If your goal is to educate, we can meet the learning needs of your target audience with strategic design and language that makes science accessible to non-experts and experts alike.

Working with us is as easy as 1, 2, 3 ... and 4.

We get to know you and your goals on a call.

Emily Hadzopulos

Freshwater Restoration Project Manager

The Nature Conservancy, CT

"Melissa and the ECOS artists she brought on were fundamental in the event and communications planning around a local World Fish Migration Day event. Melissa brings unique ideas to help an event standout, ensures that your message can reach diverse target audiences, and collaborates successfully across multiple partner groups and artists. Overall, Melissa and the ECOS community fill an essential gap in the world of environmental communications and event design!

Anthony Allen

Director of Restoration Strategy
Save the Sound

“Illustrator, producer, press liaison, science communicator, designer, entrepreneur. I have worked closely with Melissa on everything from educational sign design and production of a documentary to community-based participatory research and event planning. She is the consummate professional, a patient and creative – yet also realistic – presence in any room. There is nothing in the creative realm that is outside her range. If Melissa agrees to work on your project, it will get done, and will likely turn out even better than you could have imagined.”

Evan Lerner

Director of Communications
University of Utah

“From my first conversation with Melissa, I've known her to be someone who intuitively understands how to bridge the gap between the "what" and "how" questions of researchers and the "who" and "why" questions of artists and other creatives. And in my years of working with her, I've seen her consistently execute projects that embody this principle, using sharp thinking, clear writing, and beautiful illustration.”

Scarlett Li-Williams L

Founder of Sky Plum Studios
Science Communicator at the University of Cambridge

“Melissa is an inspiring and determined leader in the field of Sci-Art. I had the pleasure of working with Melissa on a Sci-Art Week festival in Sydney, Australia. She has a wonderful leadership style—a mix of empathy, decisiveness, adaptability, and, of course, creativity. It was a pleasure collaborating with her, and under her guidance, the week was filled with inventive, educational, and creative workshops, exhibits, murals, art, talks, and more."

Anastasia Shavrova

Evolutionary Biologist and Science Communicator
The University of Sydney

"Melissa is not only lovely to work with but also incredibly organized, insightful, and collaborative throughout the entire process. While working on the Women in STEAM exhibit and event with her, she inspired me to explore innovative approaches to science communication, like integrating art and storytelling, to convey complex concepts with clarity and creativity. Something I am now doing today as a scientist and communicator."

Ryan Smith

Co-owner and filmmaker

 Reel Quest Films

"Working with Melissa has been an absolute pleasure. Her talent lies in seamlessly bridging the worlds of conservation and artistry, ensuring that our collaboration was not only fruitful but also impactful. Moreover, Melissa's knack for writing scripts, formulating questions, and storyboarding technical and scientific concepts helped to keep our production on track. Melissa’s proficiency in event planning was also evident during the successful screening of our film. We look forward to working with her again in the future."

This is only a sampling of the types of services we offer. There’s so much more in the realm of creative communications that we can offer you. We’d love to hear from you and learn how we can customize a project and team to fit your goals!

Interactive Art

Art can quite literally be educational. 3D models crafted from thermosensitive plastic can provide visual learners with tools to better understand the anatomy and function of organs and organisms. Participatory art brings people together to make something with their hands and provides spaces for authentic connection and empathy. We use art to connect people of all walks of life to work championing the health of people and the planet.

Art Meant to be Touched

From color-changing coral polyps to tactile sculptures, prints on acrylic plexiglass and seaweed presses, art meant to be touched can aid in education and perspective shifts putting your audience at the center of the experience.
